Car lease to own in Saudi Arabia: what it really costs
Updated
How does car lease finance work in Saudi Arabia?
A car finance lease (lease to own) is regulated by the Finance Lease Law, and SAMA's responsible-lending limits apply to it as to all vehicle finance: the payments taken from your salary for consumer finance may not exceed one third (33.33%) of it. Example: a SAR 100,000 car with SAR 10,000 paid upfront, SAR 1,500 a month for 48 months and a SAR 30,000 final payment costs SAR 112,518 in all — SAR 12,518 more than cash, an APR of about 5.22% against the cash price.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Cash price | SAR 100,000 |
| Paid upfront (advance) | SAR 10,000 |
| Monthly rental × 48 | SAR 1,500 × 48 = SAR 72,000 |
| Final (balloon) payment | SAR 30,000 — no official cap, but it must be explained with your options |
| Admin fee at the SAMA cap + VAT | SAR 518 |
| Everything you pay | SAR 112,518 |
| APR against the cash price | 5.22% |
| Salary for the rental to fit within 33.33% | at least SAR 4,500 gross, with no other finance |
Official rule: SAMA's responsible-lending limits, including the one-third salary rule, apply to every credit product for individuals, vehicle finance included; the Finance Lease Law is one of the laws they rest on. (source, checked 2026-10-19)
A SAR 100,000 car with SAR 10,000 advance, SAR 1,500 a month for 48 months and a final payment of SAR 30,000 costs SAR 112,518 — SAR 12,518 more than cash, an APR of 5.22% against the cash price, admin fee and VAT included. The final payment is not covered by the rentals.
Instalments on this page follow the standard monthly formula on the reducing balance. Your bank counts interest or profit day by day between the actual payment dates and rounds each amount, so its own schedule can differ slightly. Only your signed offer is binding.

How a Saudi car lease to own works
In Saudi Arabia a lease where the car becomes yours is a finance lease under the Finance Lease Law, not an unregulated rental. You pay an advance, monthly rentals and often a final (balloon) payment; the financier owns the car until the end. The contract must show the APR, the term cost rate, the admin fee, the advance, the final payment and the total amount due.
What the rules say
- Advance payment: spread evenly over all the rentals, with no term cost on it.
- Term cost: a fixed % on the finance amount only — not on the advance, insurance or fees.
- Final payment: no official cap, but the financier must explain how it is paid and your options, including paying it in instalments.
- Insurance and maintenance: the financier pays the insurance and cannot pass it to you; running maintenance is yours, basic maintenance the financier's unless the contract says otherwise.
- Extra costs listed: plates, registration, VAT and other fees outside the finance amount must be listed in the contract.
- Paying early: rentals paid early carry no term cost; the financier may charge at most the term cost of the next 3 months on the declining balance.
- Buying out early: at most the term cost of the next 3 rentals, plus rents due, the remaining finance amount and documented third-party costs; the contract may forbid it for at most 2 years. Work it out with the early settlement calculator.
