How much can I borrow in Oman? Loan eligibility and DBR calculator

Updated

A salaried borrower with a net monthly salary of OMR 1,200 who already pays OMR 100 a month on debts may pay up to OMR 500.000 a month on a new personal loan — about OMR 25,863 over 60 months at 6%, CBO's ceiling. The 50% debt-burden limit is what decides: CBO's circular sets no maximum loan amount. A pensioner with the same net pension may use only 30%: about OMR 13,449 (OMR 260.000 a month).

The limits that apply

CBO's limits come from its Master Circular on Personal Loans/Finance (BM 1213, 13 February 2025); CBO says its 6% ceiling may change from time to time — your bank's offer is what counts.

Instalments on this page follow the standard monthly formula on the reducing balance. Your bank counts interest or profit day by day between the actual payment dates and rounds each amount, so its own schedule can differ slightly. Only your signed offer is binding.

Not a valid document. Estimate for information only — not financial advice, not an offer of credit and not a bank document. Errors are possible. Only your bank's or finance company's official offer letter, contract and statements are binding.

    CBO's limits in plain words

    • Personal loans only: all monthly debt payments at most 50% of net monthly salary. Pensioners: at most 30% of net pension up to OMR 3,500, 40% above.
    • With a housing loan: salaried at most 60% of net salary up to OMR 3,500; above it up to 75%, after a detailed credit review — only a ceiling. The personal-loan part stays at most 50%. Pensioners at most 40% (personal-loan part at most 30%), up to 75% above OMR 3,500 (personal-loan part at most 40%).
    • Every debt counts: credit cards and overdrafts included, and borrowing from finance and leasing companies. Net salary or pension is the amount your bank actually receives regularly.
    • Credit cards count by their limit: a card against salary counts as at least 5% of its whole limit a month, even if you owe little — enter that in your existing payments.
    • Term: personal loans at most 10 years, housing loans at most 25 years — both only until you are 70, counting your expected net pension.
    • Housing loan: at most 90% of the property value. Land you own and a government housing subsidy count as the down payment.
    • Vehicle loan: you pay at least 20% — a bank lends at most 80% — and credit-life insurance is required; the bank may not insist on comprehensive cover.
    • No maximum amount: CBO's circular sets none, and makes no distinction between Omanis and expatriates.

These are CBO's ceilings, not an offer: banks add their own checks. Monthly cost of one offer: personal loan calculator. Paying a loan off early: early settlement calculator.
