Instalments on this page follow the standard monthly formula on the reducing balance. Your bank counts interest or profit day by day between the actual payment dates and rounds each amount, so its own schedule can differ slightly. Only your signed offer is binding.

What CBK's rules say about car loans
The Central Bank of Kuwait has no separate rule for car loans: a car bought with a loan from a bank, investment or finance company is financed with a consumer loan, so the consumer-loan limits apply. CBK's instructions make no distinction between Kuwaitis and expatriates.
- How much: at most 25 times your net monthly salary and never above KWD 25,000 — a cap on the amount borrowed, all consumer loans together.
- How long: at most 5 years, in equal monthly instalments; no balloon (large final) payment.
- Highest rate: the CBK discount rate + 3% a year, fixed for the whole loan — 6.50% with today's discount rate of 3.50% (our sum; CBK publishes the formula). The cap applies to conventional (interest) loans; CBK's Islamic instructions set the same limits but no profit-rate cap.
- Your salary: all monthly instalments — loans, cards, operating leases and instalment purchases, from every lender — at most 40% of net monthly salary for an employee, 30% of the net pension for a retiree.
- Down payment: CBK sets none; the lender must advise you, including on paying money down to lower the instalments.
- Fees: only CBK-approved fees for a real service. Loan insurance is optional, at most 2% of the finance amount, and counts in the salary limit.
- Paying off early: you settle the outstanding balance and future interest is never charged; when early repayment comes from rearranging the loan (a new loan of the same type, moving to another lender, or a retiree's rearrangement), CBK's 2018 rules oblige the lender to waive the interest (Islamic: profit) for the remaining period. Ask your lender for the settlement figure.
CBK's limits come from its instructions of 11 November 2018 on personal (consumer and housing) loans and credit cards, as amended in 2023 and 2025 — your lender's offer is what counts.
Registration, insurance and transfer
We could not read an official Ministry of Interior fee table for registering a car, renewing its licence or transferring ownership, nor an official insurance tariff. Those fields are therefore your own estimates: they start empty and are left out of the total until you enter a figure from your dealer or insurer.
Customs duty
5% customs duty on passenger cars (HS 87.03) under the Kuwait customs tariff; an imported car's duty is normally already inside the dealer's price. If you import a car yourself, you pay it on top of the price. The calculator adds no duty: enter the price you actually pay.
