Early settlement calculator (Kuwait)
Updated
In Kuwait paying off early should cost no fee: CBK told banks in 2007 to stop charging prepayment fees on consumer and instalment loans. On a loan with interest on the reducing balance, settling early means paying the outstanding balance (plus any interest accrued since the last instalment) — future interest is simply never charged. When early repayment comes from rearranging the loan (a new loan of the same type, moving to another lender, or a retiree's rearrangement), CBK's 2018 rules oblige the lender to waive the interest (Islamic: profit) for the remaining period. Ask your lender for the settlement figure. Example: KWD 5,000 left over 36 months at 6.50%, an instalment of KWD 153.245. You settle with KWD 5,000.000 — the outstanding balance — and no longer pay KWD 516.821 in interest.
CBK's limits come from its instructions of 11 November 2018 on personal (consumer and housing) loans and credit cards, as amended in 2023 and 2025 — your lender's offer is what counts.
Instalments on this page follow the standard monthly formula on the reducing balance. Your bank counts interest or profit day by day between the actual payment dates and rounds each amount, so its own schedule can differ slightly. Only your signed offer is binding.
Not a valid document. Estimate for information only — not financial advice, not an offer of credit and not a bank document. Errors are possible. Only your bank's or finance company's official offer letter, contract and statements are binding.
What CBK says about paying off early
- No prepayment fee (2007): CBK told banks in April 2007 to stop charging fees for paying off consumer and instalment loans early. CBK does not say expressly whether that circular still applies after its 2018 instructions, but it fits them.
- Settling = the outstanding balance: interest is charged on the reducing balance, so when you settle on an instalment date you pay what is still owed and the future interest is never charged (between instalment dates, add the interest accrued since the last one).
- Interest waived when you rearrange (2018): when early repayment comes from rearranging the loan (a new loan of the same type, moving to another lender, or a retiree's rearrangement), CBK's 2018 rules oblige the lender to waive the interest for the remaining period — in Islamic finance, the profit. CBK sets no such rule for a plain settlement from your own money; ask your lender for the settlement figure.
- Only CBK-approved fees for a real service may be charged at all. If you are quoted a settlement fee, ask which CBK-approved service it pays for.
Finish earlier or pay less?
After a part-payment you can keep the instalment and finish earlier (more interest saved) or keep the end date with a lower instalment (more room in the salary limit each month). The calculator shows both. CBK publishes no rule on how part-payments must be made, so check with your lender.
Moving to another lender or a new loan
Once at least 30% of the instalments are paid on time you may take a new loan of the same type or move to another lender, at the rate in force on the new contract — still within the amount limits and the salary limit.
Islamic finance
In Islamic finance the profit is often fixed in the contract: CBK's obligation to waive the profit for the remaining period covers the rearrangement cases (a new loan of the same type, moving to another lender, or a retiree's rearrangement); for a plain settlement from your own money we found no CBK rule, so ask your lender for the settlement figure.
Housing loans
CBK's 2018 rule on waiving the remaining interest when the loan is rearranged covers personal loans for consumption and for housing. The 2007 fee circular named consumer and instalment loans, so for a housing loan check your contract and enter any fee it really states. Your monthly cost of a new loan: personal loan calculator.
Questions people ask
Is there an early settlement fee on a personal loan in Kuwait?

The outstanding balance (plus any interest accrued since the last instalment) — on a reducing-balance loan future interest is simply never charged.
