Credit card minimum payment calculator (Kuwait)
Updated
Example: KWD 1,500 on a card at 6.00% a year — the highest CBK allows on a conventional card (the discount rate of 3.50% + 2.5) — with no new spending. CBK sets no minimum payment: each card sets its own. If your card's minimum is 5% of the amount due with "at least KWD 10" (example terms — check your statement) and you pay only that, the card takes 5 years 5 months to clear and costs KWD 154.891 in interest. CBK says card debts are repaid within one year: clearing it in 12 months takes KWD 129.100 a month and KWD 49.196 in interest.
Minimum only, year by year
CBK's limits come from its instructions of 11 November 2018 on personal (consumer and housing) loans and credit cards, as amended in 2023 and 2025 — your lender's offer is what counts.

Why the minimum is a trap
The minimum is a share of what you owe. As the balance shrinks, so does the minimum, so each month you pay a little less and the debt drags on. A fixed amount every month — even just your first minimum, kept the same — clears the balance faster and the interest drops with it.
What CBK's credit card rules say
- Repaid within one year: card debts must be repaid within at most 12 months. The calculator shows the monthly amount that does it.
- Interest cap: on conventional cards at most the CBK discount rate + 2.5% — 6.00% with today's discount rate of 3.50% (our sum; CBK publishes the formula).
- Card limit: at most 10 times your net monthly salary, never more than KWD 10,000.
- Overdue bills: a card is frozen when a bill is 60 days overdue, and cancelled for good at the third default.
- Salary limit: card instalments count in the 40% (employees) / 30% (retirees) salary limit; charge cards paid in full each month do not.
- No CBK minimum payment and no CBK late-fee amount. Both are in your card's terms; lenders may charge only CBK-approved fees for a real service.
