How much is the instalment on a KWD 2,000 loan in Kuwait?
At the highest rate the Central Bank of Kuwait allows on a conventional consumer loan — 6.50% a year, fixed (3.50% discount rate + 3%) — a KWD 2,000 loan costs KWD 172.593 a month over 12 months (KWD 71.114 interest) or KWD 39.132 a month over the longest term, 60 months (KWD 347.938 interest). Your bank may charge less but not more, and the loan may be at most 25 times your net monthly salary and never more than KWD 25,000.

Official rule: Conventional personal loans (consumer and housing): interest at most 3% over the CBK discount rate, and no interest may be deducted upfront. (source, checked 2026-10-11)
An employee with a net monthly salary of KWD 1,200 borrowing KWD 10,000 over 60 months at 6.50% — the highest rate CBK allows on a conventional consumer loan today (the CBK discount rate of 3.50% + 3) — pays KWD 195.661 a month and KWD 1,739.689 in interest. With no fees the real yearly rate is 6.50%; if you also take the optional loan insurance at CBK's maximum of 2% of the amount (KWD 200.000), it becomes 7.35% when the premium is paid up front, as the calculator counts it — or about 7.21% if your lender spreads it evenly over the instalments. The instalment is well inside the 40% salary limit (KWD 480.000 a month).

Instalments on this page follow the standard monthly formula on the reducing balance. Your bank counts interest or profit day by day between the actual payment dates and rounds each amount, so its own schedule can differ slightly. Only your signed offer is binding.

What CBK's rules for consumer loans say
- Highest rate: the CBK discount rate + 3% a year — 6.50% with today's discount rate of 3.50% (our sum; CBK publishes the formula). No interest may be deducted upfront.
- Fixed rate: a consumer loan keeps its rate; it does not change when CBK moves the discount rate.
- Most you can borrow: 25 times your net monthly salary, and never more than KWD 25,000 — a cap on the amount, not on amount plus interest.
- Longest term: 5 years, in equal monthly instalments. Balloon (large final) payments are not allowed.
- Salary limit: all your monthly instalments at most 40% of net monthly salary for employees, 30% of the net pension for retirees. Loans, cards, operating leases and instalment purchases count.
- All lenders together: you may borrow from more than one lender, but the amount limits and the salary limit apply to all of them together.
- Loan insurance is your choice; if you take it, it costs at most 2% of the finance amount and counts in the salary limit.
- Fees: only fees approved by CBK, for a real service. CBK publishes no single fee table, so enter what your offer shows.
- Time to read: you get at least 2 business days with an unsigned copy of the contract before you sign.
- New loan or another lender: after at least 30% of the instalments are paid on time, at the rate in force on the new contract.
- On retirement a consumer loan may be stretched by 2 years (5 + 2 = 7).
Islamic finance
Islamic personal finance (murabaha, tawarruq, ijara) has the same amount, term and salary limits; the lender's charge is called profit instead of interest, and the maths is the same. The rate cap applies to conventional (interest) loans; CBK's Islamic instructions set the same limits but no profit-rate cap.
Paying off early: CBK told banks in 2007 to stop charging prepayment fees, and you settle the outstanding balance — future interest is never charged (if the payoff comes from rearranging the loan, CBK's 2018 rules oblige the lender to waive the remaining interest): early settlement calculator. A card balance: credit card minimum payment.
Where the limits come from
The amount, term and salary limits are the Central Bank of Kuwait's own answers in its supervision FAQ on consumer and housing loans; the rate cap is in its instructions to banks of November 2018. All of Kuwait's calculators and guides start at the loan calculator Kuwait home page.
