0% car finance or the cash discount? (Kuwait)
Updated
"0% for 4 years" at KWD 9,000 or KWD 600 off for cash? With KWD 1,000 down, the 0% offer costs a real yearly rate of 3.87% measured against the cash price of KWD 8,400 — not 0%. A normal car loan on the cash price at 6.50% (the highest rate CBK allows on a conventional consumer loan) would cost KWD 9,423.551 in all against KWD 9,000.000 for the 0% offer, so here the 0% offer is cheaper.
Instalments on this page follow the standard monthly formula on the reducing balance. Your bank counts interest or profit day by day between the actual payment dates and rounds each amount, so its own schedule can differ slightly. Only your signed offer is binding.

How the hidden rate is found
With 0% finance you repay the full offer price in equal instalments. Paying cash would have cost less. The calculator finds the yearly rate on the reducing balance at which receiving only the cash price would give exactly the same payments, fees included. That is what the "0%" really costs. If the offer price equals the cash price and there is no fee, it really is free.
The rules
- A car loan is a consumer loan: at most 25 times your net monthly salary and never above KWD 25,000, over at most 5 years. CBK sets no compulsory down payment.
- Highest rate on a conventional consumer loan: CBK discount rate + 3% (6.50% today), fixed. CBK's Islamic instructions set the same limits but no profit-rate cap. Only CBK-approved fees.
- Your salary: all monthly instalments at most 40% of net monthly salary (employee) or 30% of the net pension (retiree).
- Adverts: we found no official rule on how "0%" offers must be advertised — compare on the cash price, in writing.
